Apprenticeships

Earn, learn and build a meaningful career in care

If you’re passionate about helping others and looking for a rewarding way to start your career, an apprenticeship with Voyage Care could be the perfect first step. You’ll earn while you learn, gaining hands-on experience, nationally recognised qualifications and the confidence to build a career where you make a difference every day.

Our apprenticeship programmes are designed to help you grow – combining structured training, expert support and real experience that prepares you for long-term success. They also reflect our purpose of fulfilling lives for all, giving you the chance to learn in a genuinely caring and supportive environment.

Voyage Care has been recognised as one of the UK’s Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers by both The Sunday Times and the Department for Education, a reflection of our commitment to quality learning and development.

Our apprenticeships are about more than just qualifications — they’re about building confidence, purpose and a career that makes a real impact. You’ll gain practical experience and professional skills while being part of a supportive team that wants you to succeed.

We believe the best learning happens when people feel valued and supported. That’s why every apprentice is matched with mentors and assessors who’ll guide your development and help you reach your potential. Many of our leaders began their journey this way, proving there’s no limit to how far you can go.

If you’re aged 16 or over, live in the UK and want to start a career in care, you’re eligible to apply. Our Young Apprenticeship Programme is designed for people leaving education who want to gain hands-on experience, earn a wage and achieve a qualification without full-time classroom study.

To apply, you’ll need:

  • Aged 16–18 and a UK resident
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade D / level 3 or above
  • Commitment to study and work at the same time

Our apprenticeships combine practical learning with nationally recognised qualifications, helping you build the knowledge and skills you’ll use every day in your role.

You’ll complete:

  • Functional Skills in English and Maths (up to Level 2)
  • A Diploma in Health and Social Care, assessed in your workplace
  • An Apprenticeship Standard that demonstrates your knowledge, skills and behaviours

Your personal tutor and mentor will support you every step of the way to make sure you’re ready to achieve your qualification.

The programme usually takes 12 to 18 months to complete, depending on your level and experience. It follows a clear structure designed to support steady growth and learning:

  • Induction – meet your manager, mentor and assessor to create your learning plan.
  • Learn while you earn – gain valuable experience while earning the minimum apprentice wage.
  • Progression reviews – every twelve weeks, you’ll review your progress with your mentor and personal tutor to plan your next steps.
  • End-point assessment – when ready, you’ll complete your qualification with support from your Voyage Care team.

We offer apprenticeships at several levels, depending on your goals and experience:

  • Level 2 – Support Worker
  • Level 3 – Senior Support Worker
  • Level 4 – Deputy Manager or Field Support Supervisor*
  • Level 5 – Service Manager or Senior Manager
  • Level 6 – Chartered Manager Degree (for Service Managers and above)

Level 4 is currently available in certain areas only.

Each level helps you take the next step in your career, with opportunities to progress into leadership roles and gain qualifications that reflect your growth.

An apprenticeship is just the beginning. Once qualified, you can move into senior roles, build specialist expertise or continue developing through higher-level qualifications — even progressing to our Level 6 Chartered Manager degree.

At Voyage Care, we’re proud to see our apprentices grow into confident professionals who go on to lead teams, mentor others and make a lasting difference.

About the role

What is a support worker?

A Support Worker helps people live as independently as possible. At Voyage Care, that could mean supporting someone at home, helping them in the community, or working in a residential care service. It’s about being there for everyday life, while empowering people to grow in confidence and achieve their goals.

You’ll provide hands-on support tailored to each individual. One day you might be teaching life skills like cooking, another day enjoying a trip to the cinema or encouraging someone to join in with community activities. Support Workers also provide personal care where needed, always with dignity and respect.

The most important skills are human ones – kindness, patience, resilience and good communication. You don’t need experience to join; what matters most is your values and a genuine desire to help people. We’ll give you the training and support to succeed.

Our support worker roles are split into two different teams – those who are based at our care homes and those who support people out in the community. The key responsibilities are similar.

  • Provide support in a way that is respectful, promotes dignity and independence.
  • Provide support in any location appropriate to meet the needs of the people we support.
  • Communicating with the people you support using appropriate communication methods.
  • Assisting with individuals’ care, including personal care.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of support plans.
  • Assisting the people we support with household activities.
  • Administering medication to the people you support.
  • Recording and completing any appropriate documentation.

Because every day you’ll see the difference you make – from someone gaining confidence to cook their own dinner to achieving a dream holiday. With strong pay, benefits, training and a supportive team, it’s a role where you’ll give a lot, but gain even more.

No qualifications are required. You’ll receive a paid induction, shadowing, and ongoing training tailored to the needs of the people you support. We’ll also help you work towards recognised care qualifications if you choose.
